Shadowlands? When Jesus passed the cup to His disciples and broke the bread between his fingers on that holy Thursday, His soul was filled with a sorrow that was truly necessary for the moment. He was preparing for the task ahead and demonstrating how that sorrow would turn into joy. But first it must pass through the shadows and dwell in the darkness of sin.
Think about it. In that sorrow Jesus was able to behold more clearly the land of sweet light and happiness that awaited Him if He endured the sorrow for but a short time.
God’s Word tells us: “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:34).
There’s a time for sorrow when we rightly walk from the light toward the shadowlands to find the source of that urging calling us to communion in Christ. Here we too shall find the emptiness that makes preparation for being filled, a place of light and sweetness as we pass through the shadows of repentance and forgiveness into the presence of He who overcomes all sorrow.
“Heavenly Father, may are hearts be stilled today as we contemplate the passion of our Savior. Empty our hearts and fill them back up with the balm of Your Spirit that we might know the only true source of joy in this life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen”.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34) www.thispassingday.com
