Lose yourself? Looking good at all costs is something all of us aspire to. Nevertheless, we need to choose between looking good in the eyes of others or looking good in the eyes of God. We often make the wrong choice because we often can’t bear to be diminished in the eyes of the world. Are we willing to abandon our eternal relationship with God just to save face?
Think about it. We must never fail to understand that God doesn’t just want some of our time and attention. He wants all of our time and attention.
God’s Word tells us: “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you” (Genesis 37:26-36).
When we sin against God, we are given an opportunity to repent in humility and selflessness. Don’t chose to compromise and give God an apology but keep your self-esteem. God desires, the self. He accepts no compromises. He wants all of us so that what we have as “our” self can be destroyed and replaced with “His” self. A pretty good trade when you think about it.
“Heavenly Father, when we err and become prideful, grant us the humility to turn to You in our sin, repent of it and put pride away in our lives. Forgive us when we look to the world for our self-esteem when all the self we need can be found in You. In Jesus name. Amen!”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34) www.thispassingday.com
