How will God use you?

How will God use you? Growing up as a skinny, asthmatic boy, I struggled to understand the saying, “The mark of a good man is deeds, not looks.” At twelve or thirteen, looks seemed to matter most—physical appearance earned attention, not deeds. I couldn’t grasp my true value, as my focus was on fitting in rather than on who I was beyond appearances.

Think about it. Trying to teach a twelve or thirteen year-old what “real” is can be a very difficult task. Is being real most often what a youth sees as acceptable and ideal?

God’s Word: “But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.' (1 Samuel 16:7).”

Since I wasn’t involved in sports or physical activities, God began developing my inner talents early on. Over time, I realized my physical limitations weren’t a hindrance but something God wanted to shape and use. What I thought was my greatest handicap became the area where He worked most powerfully. I learned that who I was—my character and faith—was far more important than what I could physically do, and that’s how God would use me.

We pray: “Heavenly Father, But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.' In Jesus' name. Amen.”

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
