He looks so natural? When Christ’s body was removed from the cross, and laid in the tomb until Easter morning, how did our Savior “look” as He lay upon that cold and barren stone? If there had been a receiving line that Friday night, would they have shuffled past and uttered the words, “He looks so natural lying there?”
Think about it. Since Jesus had now completed His work and was now within the confines of the Father’s care, our Savior did look “natural,” for He was at rest and God was taking care of what now needed to be done.
God’s Word tells us: “At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid” (John 19:41).
The love that Jesus had been denied for those excruciating hours on the cross was now His for eternity. He was safe in God’s care. He had reached the end of His ministry and a heavenly glory awaited. He did, of course, look natural; for His death was naturally divinely wrought!
“Heavenly Father, as Christ, who suffered, rested from that suffering in that tomb, so we look forward to a time when we too will find that peace. We are thankful that You have blessed us with such a Savior that we might know our rest will be but for a while. In Jesus name we pray. Amen! ‘
