God’s stuff? Martin Luther wrote: “I have held many things in my hand, and have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands that I still possess.” He was right. There are many things that can affect ownership. Disease, the weather, marital discord–the list can get long. When you’re hedging your bets on ownership it’s as easy to be a loser as a winner.
Think about it. Most of the things in this life, can slip through our fingers. Yet we expect to own things; it’s the American dream. Nevertheless, how realistic are these expectations?
God’s Word tells us: “… there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you” (Deuteronomy 15:1).
The problem is when expectations come from what we expect of things, they are subject to failure; when they come from what we expect of God, however, they are destined to succeed. Ultimately you and I must expect to own nothing but our faith. To own our faith, God owns the collateral, the blood of Christ, so our faith is free, ours to own. God’s stuff is freely given.
