Designed to soar? As I age, I’m tempted to eat more and exercise less. Goes with the territory for many of us. My morning exercise routine—25 minutes on the Stepper and a 30 minute walk—often feels tedious, even burdensome at times; almost just like going through the motions? What was once meaningful now often seems somehow expendable, making it easy to avoid the ritual in favor of expedience.
Think about it. It’s a matter of yielding. Expedience gets easier the more often we allow ourselves to succumb to it.
God’s Word: “… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. (Hebrews 12:1b-2).”
As we age, it’s easy to become complacent about what truly matters. Temptation can turn into habit, and when we neglect our relationship with Christ, we risk losing our ability to rise above it. God designed us to soar, but complacency is alluring. We need to cut it off before it becomes a habit. Embrace the spirit God intended for us to use daily, not just when it’s convenient.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, help us recognize complacency in our lives. Strengthen our faith and relationship with You, guiding us to rise above temptation, and soar as a saint. Remind us to embrace the wings You’ve given us, using them daily for Your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
