A good deal of courage? Sometimes it is far easier to face imminent danger than it is to face ridicule or persecution. When we are in danger it’s often a matter of one on one; when it comes to ridicule or persecution it quite often involves one against many.
Think about it. Given the choices, a man is more likely to choose pitting his body against a known foe than pitting his wits against what he does not know.
God’s Word tells us: “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, … fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest” (Hebrews 3:1-6).
Standing firm in the faith has its dues. God wants our hearts. He wants us to put ourselves in harm’s way, a place where ridicule and persecution stand ready to harm us. We’re compelled by the love of Christ to defend and protect the precious Word of God. With this power there is never any need to worry about the enemy. It takes straight thinking a good deal of courage.
