Where are You?

(11.19.21– Get Real! –Luke 10: 9)

My friend, may I ask you a question? What will heaven be like? Perhaps that's because our imagination is where God wants to paint the picture?

We live in the company of hundreds, literally hundreds, of Beech and Maple trees here at Beech Springs. And, by the way, it's leaf pickup time. That means that there are literally thousands upon thousands of leaves on the ground right now waiting to be picked up. Recently I complained to a friend that my biggest problem wasn't the amount of leaves to be picked up but, rather, not having enough places to put them once I've picked them up. He responded with the admonition that there ought to be some place on the property where there were fewer trees and available space to dump. You know what? There isn't. There are a whole lot of trees and, really, few places left to dump the leaves that I pick up each year. I'm literally running out of room. There are few if any places where leaves aren't this time of the year.

Here's a story: A learned, theological school instructor was taking a bus to class one day. As he scanned the choice of seats he discovered that the only unoccupied seat was next to a little boy. His keen eye detected that the little boy was grasping firmly to what appeared to be a Sunday school book. A good choice, he thought. He seated himself down next to the lad and asked him, "Do you go to Sunday school, my boy," he asked in a friendly way. "Yes sir," the lad replied with a smile. "Tell me my boy," he continued confidentially, thinking to have some fun with him, "tell me where God is and I will give you this apple I have in my pocket." The little boy screwed up his face as if to say in a frown "what a foolish question." He looked at the professor sharply and quickly, confidently replied: "I will give you a whole barrel of apples if you tell me where His is not!" (Complete Speakers Sourcebook)

Where is God? The Bible tells us that He is "near you." But, what does that mean? If you are searching for God in your life perhaps you should search no farther than, well, everywhere. Like those Beech and Maple leaves here at Beech Springs, there literally is no place where He isn't. That little boy had it right; God is not something or someone that we need to be searching for since He is already near us, seeable, searchable and readily known. God is. He IS. He is under you, around you, above you, in you and beside you. Fortunately, unlike those leaves, He is everywhere; and that's exactly where we need and want Him to be. As Christians you and I need to understand this simple yet mysterious truth: God is. He doesn't hide and isn't hidden. He is. It simply a matter of opening your eyes and with a believing heart knowing that God IS. End your search and forget about finding Him. He has already found you. Thank Him for that.

We pray. Heavenly Father, there are time when we are inclined to think—where are you Lord? Your Word tells us that You are "near us." But, what does that mean? Is it true Lord that we can find You everywhere? Help us Father to understand this simple yet mysterious truth: You are. You aren’t hiding and are never hidden from us. You just are. It simply a matter of opening our eyes and with a believing heart know that You are. Help us to end our search and forget about finding You. You have already found us. Thank You for that. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
