What matters? When things go wrong our thinking is more likely to turn to blame than accepting responsibility for our own fault. It’s just human nature. Why are we so quick to transfer fault in just about anything that happens to go bad in our lives?
Think about it. When we turn to self instead of others, we pull away from God. We turn our backs to God and try to keep a part of our “dead, selfish self” to ourselves.
God’s Word tells us: “Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.” (Genesis 37:26-36).
Thank goodness that God cannot tolerate death. We can be certain that when we seek to pass off blame, he will visit us in some way to reclaim what is rightfully his, “dead parts” excepted. When it comes to serving others before ourselves, what matters is the service we give to others, not why the service is needed. There is no room for blame in a life filled with love.
“Heavenly Father, when things go wrong in life we often seek others to take the blame we owe to ourselves. Forgive us Lord and grant us Your grace that we may alway seek to give that first to others instead. In Jesus name. Amen!”
