Us over me? (10.19.21–I'm A People –Ephesians:2:8-9)
My friend, may I ask you a question? It's been said: "Without imperfection we wouldn't know love. Is that the way God wants us to know love?
My friend, Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day.
I'm M. Clifford Brunner.
Recently I heard a radio commentator say something that just cut me to the quick. He said that "we have burrowed our way into a an asocial culture, intent on isolation, privacy and individual protections. We've literally surrounded ourselves with ourselves. Perhaps it's the expanding lack of privacy with all the electronic and digital invasions that occur daily in our lives that has spawned this regression." He went on to say. "But the unintended consequence of isolation is the decline of us and the ascension of me. Can anything good come of that?"
Here's a thought from a teen that graphically portrays that decline. "You need to get to know each person you come in contact with, cherish your friendship with them, and show them that you care. The greatest pain in life is not to die, but to be ignored. To lose the person you love so much to another who doesn't care at all. To have someone you care so about so much throw a party... and not tell you about it. When your favorite person on earth neglects to invite you to his graduation. To have people think that you don't care. The greatest pain in life, is not to die, but to be forgotten. To be left in the dust after another's great achievement. To never get a call from a friend, just saying "hi". When you show someone your innermost thoughts and they laugh in your face. For friends to always be too busy to console you when you need someone to lift your spirits. When it seems like the only person who cares about you, is you. Life is full of pain, but does it ever get better? Will people ever care about each other, and make time for those who are in need? Each of us has a part to play in this great show we call life. Each of us has a duty to mankind to tell our friends we love them. If you do not care about your friends you will not be punished. You will simply be ignored... forgotten... as you have done to others." (Author unknown. This was written by a young girl who committed suicide three years ago. Perhaps if people surrounding her had shown a little more love, and had paid more attention to her and less to themselves, her death could have been prevented. While our personal space is important and life can get pretty hectic when we don't take time for ourselves, we need to remember "us" is more important than "me." We need to be reminded daily that there are many people that pass through our lives daily that need "us" even when we need "me." As Jesus reached out to the many even at the risk of no sleep, little food and precious little time to be alone, so should we. There are many at risk around us and you can't judge a sad, lonely, or suicidal person by their facial expression alone. You need to find the "us" in order to know the "me" that is hurting.
We pray. Heavenly Father, we need to be reminded daily that there are many people around us that pass through our lives daily that need "us" even when we need to be thinking of "me." As Jesus reached out to the many even at the risk of no sleep, little food and precious little time to be alone, so should we. Forgive us Lord when we selfishly do not. There are many at risk around us and we can't judge their need by their facial expression alone. We need to find the "us" in order to know the "me" that is hurting. Help us to do that. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
