Unlovable?

02.12.21—What Price Love? – John 5: 20

My friend, may I ask you a question? Is it really God’s plan is for us to show love when little or none is shown in return?

My friend, life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day.

I’m M. Clifford Brunner

There’s this person in my life who is just, very hard to love. He’s got a temper and little sense of fairness or justice. He’s gone out of his way to be difficult with me and has even gone so far as to do things to make my life miserable. He’s the kind of person that you’d just love to dislike. In fact, he makes it so easy to dislike him that you can do it with almost no effort at all. If you say it’s black, he says its white. If you try to be kind, he returns kindness with meanness. The questions is, does God want we to love this guy? And, if He does, how does He expect me to do it? And, in the end, how will loving the unlovable benefit anyone?

Is it really God’s plan is for us to show love when little or none is shown in return?

Here’s a story: When he was twelve years old, a little boy ran away from home causing his parents a great deal of grief. When he returned in the morning, he expected to be punished. Instead, Mom and Dad embraced him. For the next couple of weeks, his Dad worked on a project with him - the building of a small, wooden red biplane. Dad put a lot of time and effort into this project, more than he could really afford because he was a very busy manager. By the end of the month, the finished biplane was proudly displayed on the boy’s bedroom table. It was the first thing he saw each morning and the last thing he looked at each night. The Dad abided his son’s running away by abiding an abundance of his own time; returning love for lovelessness. (Unknown)

By taking time to make that biplane, the little boy’s Dad was giving him all of his attentive love; even though the little boy hadn’t really earned it with his behavior. Yet, that little boy found strength and love in his Father’s patience, forgiveness, and care. No matter where we are today, what we are experiencing, or whatever we may have to endure, our Heavenly Father embraces and abides with us, showing us His love through all that He does. We can do no less for others; especially those who regard our love carelessly. Try loving someone today who is unlovable. It’s the real test of your ability TO love. The benefit may not be immediately apparent, but to God, the risk is worth it.

We pray. Heavenly Father. Teach us how to love those around us that, at times, are unlovable and difficult to care about. Help us to find the strength and love in Your patience, forgiveness, and care by the power of Your Holy Spirit to do what seems impossible, but is very possible when we call upon Your name to put that love in us. No matter where we are today, what we are experiencing, or whatever we may have to endure, our You embrace and abide with us, showing us His love through all that You do. We can do no less for others; especially those who regard our love carelessly. Forgive us when we take revenge instead of the opportunity to love. Help us to try loving someone today who is unlovable as the real test of our ability TO love. The benefit may not be immediately apparent, but to You, the risk is worth it. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
