Tomorrow’s pain? I've been catching wasps and hornets at Beech Springs for years, avoiding stings by quickly grabbing their heads. It became routine until last week, when a hardy specimen stung me as I let go too soon. The pain was always there, waiting for its chance. It was just a matter of time.
Think about it. Similarly, sometimes sin is so easy to take for granted. We reach for it time and time again, and it satisfies; that is until it finally bites us back.
God’s Word tells us: “Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. 26 Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng (Proverbs 7:25).”
Proverbs, written by King Solomon, warns his son of sin's dangers. Solomon understood that imagination and desire can lead to temptation, much like a boy touching a mousetrap. He taught that the wisdom in Proverbs provides life guidance and protection from ignorance. God promises benefits if we avoid sin, chiefly saving us from its painful consequences, as today's risk often leads to tomorrow's pain.
We pray: “Heavenly Father, grant us Solomon's wisdom to resist temptation. Guide us through Proverbs, protecting us from ignorance and sin. Strengthen our resolve to avoid risks that lead to pain. Thank you for your promised protection and blessings. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.”
