Time to sizzle? As a kid I knew it wasn’t polite to argue for the sake of it and definitely not be overzealous in pursuit of an opinion. Out of respect for others we should be able to see the opposite viewpoint and willing to listen more and speak less.
Think about it. Nevertheless, is it possible to carry good will too far? Is there a point when zeal should replace forbearance?
God’s Word tells us: “He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites” (Numbers 25:13).
Is there ever a good time to become zealous, to step out of character and sizzle? I’m convinced that God reserves those times for rare occasions, but they do come. Our job is to keep the fire of faith burning, ready to leap into action and stir things up when God asks us to. There’s nothing more useless that a tepid response to a burning question. Keep it under control but always be ready to use the fire when God gives it.
