The Liberator?

(12.24.21– ’Tis the Season –Luke 3:1-18)

My friend, may I ask you a question? When the doors of this life open at the final destination, will we walk into the freedom of full forgiveness and peace in Jesus Christ?

Here's a story: "During the Nazi occupation of Holland, the Nazis planned to deport Jewish children not to a concentration camp, but to a crematorium where they would be killed. When the day to be taken away came, Christian resistance leaders secretly boarded the train along with the Jewish children and commandeered the train. The trip lasted a few days. One morning the train stopped and word was given that they were to get out of the train. They got out, expecting to find themselves surrounded by guards. Instead, they were standing in the middle of a pasture. They were not in Germany but Switzerland. The train, taking them to their death, had been taking them to life, freedom in Switzerland. As a result, these 300 children weren't recipients of the death they had expected, but of a new life."

Jesus came to earth to preach repentance and forgiveness. The repentance part of the message was and is difficult to hear. If that were his only message, you and I would be no different than those on that train. Yet, unlike those poor, troubled passengers on that Nazi death train, words of encouragement, forgiveness of sins in Christ, completed that message of repentance. We are relieved because the spectacle of certain death is replaced with certain life. It's like a picture of a beautiful Swiss pasture, not a German death camp. When the doors of this life open at the final destination, we will walk into the freedom of full forgiveness and peace in Jesus Christ.

Christmas is a good time for each of us to reexamine our trip through this life. Do you know where your train is headed? Are you prepared for the final destination? Is your trip through this life filled with doubts and fears that cause you to stumble or hide? If, at the end of the day you find yourself huddled in the cold and lonely corners of your heart, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring and, perhaps it's time to reexamine the track you're on. If you've burdened your life with cares and sorrows, and filled your days with thoughts of this world and not the next, you may be on the wrong train, the one that leads to certain death and separation from God forever. Take the train of liberation, on the track of Jesus Christ, the liberator. Unburden your hearts as you step on this train; leave your cares and sorrows behind you. At the end of the line awaits a lush pasture of forgiveness and eternal life. There will be no death when this train reaches its destination. Step out into the light of Jesus Christ–our liberator!

We pray. Heavenly Father, You sent Your Son Jesus to earth to preach repentance and forgiveness. Sometimes the repentance part of the message was and is difficult to hear. Yet, we are relieved because the spectacle of certain death is replaced with certain life Jesus Christ, the baby born in Bethlehem. When the doors of this life open at the final destination, we will walk into the freedom of full forgiveness and peace in Jesus Christ. Thank You Lord for the merriness of that message at this most blessed, holy and merry time of the year. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
