My friend, may I ask you a question? When it comes to execution and planning, what does God have to say about priorities?

There's a time to think and a time to turn thinking into action. All planning and no work is not worth the planning. It’s the action that makes the plan worthwhile, not the other way around. If you wait for the perfect plan, you may never find it and then nothing gets done. Nevertheless, although it's great to put your nose to the grindstone and get the work done, it's also great to know what you are doing before you put your nose anywhere near a grindstone. Getting the work done and doing it right are both important. Unfortunately, when we focus too much on either one over the other, we often end up in deadlock. In the first place we may do a lot of work without results; in the second we might find the perfect plan but never see it executed. Either way there's frustration.

When it comes to execution and planning, what does God have to say about priorities?

Here's a story: A farmer hired a man to work for him. He told him his first task would be to paint the barn and said it should take him about three days to complete the job. But the hired man was finished unexpectedly in one day. The farmer then set him to cutting wood, telling him it would require about four days to get that done. The hired man finished, once again, in a day and a half, to the farmer's amazement. The next task was to sort out a large pile of potatoes. He was to arrange them into three piles: seed potatoes, food for the hogs, and potatoes that were good enough to sell. The farmer said it was a small job and shouldn't take him long at all. At the end of the day the farmer came back and found the hired man had barely started. "What's the matter?" The farmer asked. "You finished the other jobs so quickly. Why haven't you been able to complete this simple task in a similar way?" To which the hired man replied: "I can work hard, that's easy. But now you've complicated things. Deciding is so much harder than doing!" (Source Unknown.)

Being impetuous and launching out on a project before you've planned the course you will take often leads to frustration and a waste of time. God wants us to take all of our tasks to Him first, no matter how big or small, and ask for His blessing. Then and only then is a plan ready for doing. However, God also wants us to act on our plans and not just think about the work that needs to be done. When it comes to priorities, does God really have a plan to help us get the work done? Working with a double-edge sword, might be the best way to put it. Being able to work hard and do much IS a sword that cuts one way. Being able to plan well makes that a double-edged sword, for it cuts BOTH ways. When it comes to getting work done, planning and doing in balance, makes for a Godly outcome.

We pray. Heavenly Father, We know that You do not want us to be impetuous, launching out on a project before You've planned the course You want us to take. Forgive us when we don’t rely on You first, no matter how big or small, and ask for Your blessing. Then and only then is a plan ready for doing. But Lord we also know that You want us to act on our plans and not just think about the work that needs to be done. Thank You for Your Spirit that assists us in being able to both plan and work hard. This is truly a double-edged sword, for it cuts BOTH ways. When it comes to getting work done, planning and doing in balance, makes for an outcome we know that You ordain. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
