By the handle? Affliction in our lives is like choosing which way to pick up a sharp knife; it either serves us or cuts us depending upon how we choose to grasp it-- by the blade or the handle. It really is a matter of perspective. God knows best the path we need to take in this life and often that path may lead through a place of pain or sorrow.
Think about it. When bad things happen to good people, it’s easy to feel the sharp side of the hurt, isn’t it? Yet, when we keep the hurt and the pain in perspective, hold it by the handle and not the blade as it were, the sting is not apparent, only the opportunity.
God’s Word tells us: “Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.” (Acts 7:60).
Often it is God’s purpose to weave in sorrow into the fabric of our lives. In foolish pride, we forget He sees the texture of our lives and we only the color. But not till the loom is silent shall God unroll the cloth of what our lives are about. The blessing lies in the fact that someday it will all make sense; if only we have the patience to hold the hurt by the handle and not the blade.
“Lord, unite us with Christ, since it is Your good pleasure to unite us to Him in both suffering and glory. Enable us to bear what is brought upon us and help us to submit ourselves entirely to Your will. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
