Starring down the barrel?

Staring down the barrel? How often have you thought, “I wish I had said that!” Criticism can catch us off guard, leaving us vulnerable and momentarily stunned. We later replay the situation, angry and wishing we had defended ourselves with more wit and courage. We vow to handle similar situations better next time, with greater confidence and intelligence.

Think about it. If you are one of those people who are not “quick on the trigger” when others start shooting criticism your way, perhaps you’re blessed?

God’s Word tells us: “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. (Proverbs 9:9).”

When criticized, it's wise to accept what's true and correct our faults. Don Moen wrote, “Your strength is made strong in our weakness.” Criticism can make us feel weak, making it a perfect time to rely on God. Commit the matter to God, not Satan. Let the Holy Spirit soften the blow, avoiding sin’s bullet. A bullet pierces deeply, but a blow only bruises. Embrace God’s strength and let it transform vulnerability into resilience.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, in times of criticism, help us accept what is true and correct our faults. Strengthen us in our weakness and let Your Spirit soften the blow. Guide us to commit our struggles to You, transforming our vulnerability into resilience. Fill us with Your grace and wisdom. In Jesus Christ. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
