Slapping at things? Deer flies, those dive-bombers that appear in late July, thrive in the sunlight-shade areas around Beech Springs. They target you while you get the mail or mow the lawn, favoring the back of your neck. Last night, I swatted at them while mowing, almost losing control of the tractor and narrowly avoiding giving myself a black eye.
Think about it. When we strike out at those who hurt us with angry words, often we end up not only hurting others, but hurting ourselves in the process.
God’s Word tells us: “It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel (Ecclesiastes 4:12).”
Strife is a monster that thrives when issues aren't resolved. It causes discord in homes, workplaces, and churches, leading to divorces, lawsuits, broken relationships, and divisions. Honorable people seek win-win solutions, understanding not every issue is about right or wrong. Be careful when addressing conflicts; missing the target can be painful and often leaves you with the black eye.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, grant us wisdom to seek peace and understanding in our conflicts. Help us to see beyond right and wrong. Guide us to be patient and compassionate, avoiding strife. May we foster harmony in our homes, workplaces, and churches. In Jesus Christ name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
