Sharp spades?

Sharp spades? We recently tackled some landscaping in the side yard, removing sod and weeds near a fencerow and garden. I gathered tools and, despite my hopes, quickly realized my spade was too dull to dig effectively. The soil was stubborn, and after struggling with the old spade, I decided to discard it for a sharper one. The right tool made all the difference.

Think about it. In times of peace, our moral senses dull, making us complacent and reluctant to engage, missing the chance to fulfill our purpose.

God’s Word: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24).”

If God must choose between a sharpened spade and a dull one, He’ll undoubtedly choose the sharp. He seeks Christians who are actively engaged, not those who sit back, hoping others will do the work. Each of us needs to remain spiritually sharp and ready for God’s call to action. The best way to achieve this is through daily Bible reading, which helps us hone our lives spiritually. There’s no time for holy waiting when holy work is waiting to be done!

We pray. “Heavenly Father, help us stay spiritually sharp and ready for Your work day or night. Always on guard to serve you. Ignite our hearts with a passion for service, guiding us to diligently seek Your purpose in all we do. Strengthen our commitment to Your Word. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
