Seeing Christ? Why did Jesus put such importance on the faith of little children? Perhaps it’s because little children are about the closest things to God we are going to find in this life. They are miniature examples of how God wants us to relate to Him, in complete honesty, trust, and innocence. Children are walking faith portraits.
Think about it. When we look upon the faces of the little ones, we see something that is missing from our lives and we know, deep-down needs to be there again.
God’s Word tells us: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16).
We see our Savior in children, that blessed babe in the manger, and our heartstrings are tugged. We spend our lives searching for meaning and purpose and then, suddenly, we are staring it in the face, the face of a little child. Wherever we look and see Christian children, we see Christ, if only we could believe it.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of children. Create in us the trusting hearts of the little ones that we may see your face reflected in them. Forgive us when we allow life to blind us to the importance of children and the message they bring. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen!
