Secret sharing?

(06.25.21– A Faith That Feels!--Isaiah 7:12)

My friend, may I ask you a question? In our relationships with those we love and especially with God, ought we to be seeking a level of emotional willingness to share our secrets without regard for how they might be perceived?

My friend, Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day.

I'm M. Clifford Brunner.

Did you ever find yourself in a situation where you just couldn't hold back? I mean, there was no loss for words. They poured out; you were so full of enthusiasm, astonishment or whatever the motivating emotion was. I remember just such a time, many years ago, when I saw something in the sky that I couldn't explain. It was, I guess, what you might call an unidentified flying object. It was unidentified because I couldn't figure out what it was. It was definitely flying and it seemed to have mass of some sort. Despite the fact that I'm sure to this day it was explainable by someone's understanding, at that moment it wasn't to me. I went home and the words just poured out to my parents.

Because I was filled with emotion, I just couldn't hold it back. I had to let it out. I wasn't concerned about how it sounded or whether my mom or dad would be skeptical. I just needed to share what I saw because it was too important not to. There was no time to weigh words or measure a reaction and keeping it secret was not an option. I needed to do it now.

Here's a story: If you pour out all your weaknesses, needs, troubles, there will be no lack of what to say. You will never exhaust the subject. It is continually being renewed. People who have no secrets from each other never want for subject of conversation. They do not weigh their words, for there is nothing to be held back; neither do they seek for something to say. They talk out of the abundance of the heart, without consideration they say just what they think. Blessed are they who attain to such familiar, unreserved intercourse with each other and with God. (Francois Fenelon)

In our relationships with those we love and especially with God, we ought to be seeking a level of emotional willingness to share our secrets without regard for how they might be perceived. Holding back when God wants us to unburden ourselves weakens a relationship, not strengthens it. If we truly love someone, we ought to be willing to be intimate; to share even the things that might be embarrassing or deeply personal. Opening up to others and especially to God is not a sign of weakness. When it comes to our willingness to share our love, a Christian ought never be at a loss for words.

We pray. Heavenly Father, please help us to seek a level of emotional willingness to share our secrets with those we love without regard for how they might be perceived. We know that holding back when You want us to unburden ourselves weakens our relationships with others, not strengthens them. If we truly love someone, help us to be willing to be intimate; to share even the things that might be embarrassing or deeply personal. Forgive us when we hide ourselves away and don’t open up to others, especially to You. When it comes to our willingness to share our love, we ought never be at a loss for words. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
