Saving face? When we put ourselves into situations where one error is compounded by another, we easily risk discovery, embarrassment and humiliation. Saving face is something we’re all guilty of at some time in life. And, saving face can often lead us into even more ridiculous situations that are even harder to get out of than the one that got us into it in the first place.
Think about it. One mistake often leads to another, and then another. When we place a wall of “saving-face” between us and the often, difficult situations we find ourselves in, it’s not only likely but probable that the end result will be the opposite of what we wish it to be.
God’s Word: “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy (Proverbs 28:13).”
Trying to save face often leads to losing it. Mistakes seem threatening at first, but when we accept them instead of denying them, we understand their depth. Admitting our wrongs early helps avoid sinking into embarrassment. It's always better to own a mistake than to spiral into shame, as acceptance allows us to move forward without being trapped by our own pride.
We pray: “Heavenly Father, help me to own my mistakes with humility and grace. Teach me to accept my errors without fear or pride, so I may learn, grow, and move forward. Free me from the shame of denial, and guide me toward repentance and peace. In Jesus name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
