My friend, may I ask you a question? Washed in the blood of the lamb, Jesus Christ, should we withdraw from the world, become hermits and cut ourselves off from the condemning influence of the ungodly?

My friend, life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day. I’m M. Clifford Brunner

God teaches us in His Word that rejection by the world is something that every Christian should both expect and in fact long for. The Apostle Paul writes in the book of Romans: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). He is telling us that, once changed by Christ we are no longer acceptable by the world.

But, does that mean that we are no longer part of the world? Washed in the blood of the lamb, should we withdraw from the world, become a hermit and cut ourselves off from the condemning influence of the ungodly? Hardly! God put us in the world to affect the world not escape it. It is because we are reborn in Christ that we are able to affect the world in a way that the ungodly can’t. That means that when given the opportunity to make an impact, we need to stand ready to do so even when the world offers only rejection.

When our acts of kindness and sharing are rejected by those who don’t understand the love of Christ, we have two choic- es: we can walk away, head in hands or we can brush ourselves off and head back into the fray. In 1905, the University of Bern turned down a Ph.D. dissertation as being irrelevant and fanciful. The young physics student who wrote the dissertation was Albert Einstein, who rejected the rejection. In 1894, the rhetoric teacher at Harrow in England wrote on the sixteen-year-olds’ report card, ‘a conspicuous lack of success.’ The sixteen-year-old was Winston Churchill, who rejected the rejection. (James S. Hewett, Illustrations Unlimited, Wheaton: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc, 1988 p. 155)

Our ticket to real freedom in this life is to reject the rejection we experience when we confess our faith. When we believe in a changed life in Christ, we need not be bothered by the conviction of the world. When we reject that judgment, we have the power to overcome it just like Frost and Einstein. God has a perfect plan for you and I and it includes rejection. But, with Him at the wheel driving the plan, rejection only serves to be a bump in the road to success.

We pray. Heavenly Father. When we believe in a changed life in Christ, we need not be bothered by the conviction of the world. We know that you are on our side and will comfort us with Your grace no matter the rejection we might suffer at the hands of the ungodly. When we reject their judgment, we have the power to overcome it just like others who have gone before us who never gave up to failure while there was still hope for success. You have a perfect plan for us and it includes rejection at times. Forgive us when we give up when You have merely started. With You O Lord at the wheel driving the plan, rejection only serves to be a bump in the road to success. Thank you Father for never giving up on us. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
