Read the label before opening?

Read the label before opening? I hate cleaning the garden shed because of the old, half-used containers of "shed juice"—insecticides, herbicides, and other outdated chemicals. Despite their colorful packaging, they hide gross, unsafe contents. Once, a cap came off, and smelly green ooze bleached the shed floor. The cheerful label seemed a cruel joke.

Think about it. Many things in life look pretty good on the outside but are rotten in God’s eyes on the inside. It’s a matter of opening them up and taking a look on the inside.

God’s Word: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life (Galatians 6:7-8).”

Just as Satan tries to make a good case for doing what God forbids, he deceives us with appealing labels, promising fun and excitement. The Bible warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). We must not be fooled by appearances; what seems good on the outside can hide dangerous poison within. Like a spider's web, Satan's allurements are traps, looking harmless but filled with oozing, noxious, and dangerous consequences inside.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, help us discern truth from deception. Guard us from Satan's enticing lies and remind us that what appears good may hide danger. May we sow to the Spirit, reaping eternal life, and stay true to Your word. Strengthen us to resist temptation and follow Your path. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
