Pointed sticks? As a boy, running with pointed sticks was a way of life, despite my mother’s warnings. To us, they weren’t risky, but to her, they were a real danger. One summer, during a game of army, we whittled sapling branches into pointed sticks, armed ourselves, and began our battle, ignoring the cautions that seemed unnecessary to us.
Think about it. After my Mom’s lecture however on the danger of pointed sticks, each of us began to wonder. “How can you play army without weapons?
God’s Word: “'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him.' (1 Samuel 16:7).”
After the lecture, the pointed sticks disappeared for a while, but soon enough, we threw caution to the wind and brought them back. Though dangerous, they were necessary for boys. We risked injury for their usefulness. Similarly, faith can be risky, and God sometimes asks us to take risks that might bring hurt. The world sees only the dangers of faith, but we understand how essential it is in shaping and defining who we are in Christ.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, Lord, give me the courage to take risks in faith, even when it feels dangerous or uncertain. Help me trust You, knowing that the challenges I face are shaping who I am in Christ. May my faith grow stronger despite the risks. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
