One tree at a time?

01.04.21—Shining – Matthew 5: 14-16

My friend, may I ask you a question? God chooses you and I like we chose a match. Can the power of one empowered Christian ignite the world every time?

I had to choose. In hand I had one kitchen match, the kind with the wooden stick and the self-igniting end and a book of matches. It was one verses 24. The trash needed to be burned and there was a cold, breeze coming out of the north. I looked again at the choice and decided to go with the book. It wasn’t long (about ten matches into the 24) that I decided this was the poorer choice. Those tiny, little book matches just wouldn’t stay lit long enough to ignite anything. I deferred to the kitchen match. Even though its number were few, the quality of its construction made it the better choice. It wasn’t long before the trash was burning and there was still a stub of kitchen match remaining.

God chooses you and I like I chose that match. The power of one empowered Christian can ignite the world every time.

Here’s a story: My daughter and I planted four trees in our backyard recently. When I look out on them now I smile. They are so small and yet so full of life. As they stretch towards the morning sun and slowly grow upward to the sky I can see the hundreds of glorious years that lie ahead of them. Soon they will be filling the air around them with life giving oxygen. Soon they will be blessing the world with their sweet smell and comforting shade. Soon they will be changing the world for the better just by being in it. What most of us don’t realize is that we can change the world for the better just by being in it too. Every single smile that we share plants a little more light in another’s heart. Every single act of kindness that we do plants a little more kindness and happiness in this world. Every single moment of joy that we spread puts new seedlings of joy in the souls around us. Every single bit of love that we give plants another sapling of Heaven here on Earth. (Joe Mazzella)

We may only think of ourselves as tiny twigs, but in our lifetimes we all can do more good than a forest of Redwoods. We shouldn’t be afraid to try and change the world for the better then. Remember as a Child of God we’re put here to fill this world with love and joy. With God’s love in our hearts and with His joy in our souls we can help to create a never- ending forest of goodness in this world just by planting one sapling at a time.

We pray. Heavenly Father, we may only think of ourselves as tiny twigs, insignificant and small, but in our lifetimes we all can do more good than a forest of Redwoods if we chose to follow Your Word. We shouldn’t be afraid to try and change the world for the better then. Forgive us when we are afraid or find ourselves too busy to even think about doing something. We know that You have put us here to fill this world with love and joy. With Your love in our hearts, and with godly joy in our souls we can help to create a never-ending forest of goodness in this world just by planting one sapling at a time. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
