Not at eye level?

Not at eye level? As I get older, bending down is becoming more challenging. I recently searched for a binder that held several important user’s manuals, checking the garage and shed without success. Frustrated, I asked my wife, who pointed me to the workbench. Finally, I discovered the binder on a lower shelf I hadn’t wanted to bend over and check. The experience reminded me to look everywhere, even when it’s inconvenient and difficult to bend.

Think about it. How like life that is. Does it seem that sometimes God puts His greatest treasures on life’s lower shelves; unassuming but there?

God’s Word: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble (James 4:6).”

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, grew up in a modest home and in a small town. He was a simple carpenter; one of the more humbler trades in Jewish society. Yet He was the light of the world. What mattered to Jesus is what should matter to us – our spirit, the song of our life, our conduct and our love; things often stashed away on the lower shelves of our lives. We have so much to give; as long as we remember to check all the shelves on which God stores His gifts. Sometimes His richest gifts aren’t at eye level.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, Help us to embrace humility as we face the many challenges we face in this life. Teach us to seek solutions, even in uncomfortable places, and remind us to be patient as we learn to look beyond our limitations. In Jesus' name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
