Mixed vegetables?

We are not mixed vegetables? Years ago we joined a local CSA, getting fresh, organic vegetables from a local farmer on pickup. Our fridge was packed with everything from squashes to tomatoes. Before this, I was a vegetable newbie, relying on cans or bags. With so many fresh veggies, I started blending and juicing them into one mix to enjoy all the flavors together.

Think about it. When it comes our walk with God, however, blending in the ingredients isn’t really the way to get the desired flavor.

God’s Word: “Come now, let us settle the matter,’says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool (1 Peter 4:8)”

God tells us that we are the “fruit” of the land, holy and set apart (Isaiah 4:2). He has ordained it that we not blend “who we are” with “who we are not.” We are not of this world. We are to remain unblended with the thoughts and cares of unbelievers. The “flavor” of a Christian is unique and can’t be improved by blending it with unbelief. Blending in with the world around us may be convenient, but it’s an aroma unpleasant to God. We are not mixed vegetables.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, You call us to be holy and set apart, unblended with the world’s ways. Help us remain true to our unique identity in Christ. May we shine with Your light, distinct and faithful, pleasing to You. Guide us to resist blending in and to honor You always. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
