Mirrors?

(11.17.20—Divine Relationships!--Luke 10:42)

My friend, may I ask you a question? Is God constantly sending out the light of His grace in search of the mirrors of our hearts? Or, are we content to shine less brilliantly without His polished grace?

For years on Friday mornings I’ve always cleaned the upstairs bathroom before leaving for work. It was my little way of helping out with the cleaning chores. This morning as I was cleaning the bathroom mirror, rubbing and wiping it to a glossy sheen, a glint of light suddenly beamed out at me from the face of the mirror. Holly had turned a light on in the dark bedroom behind me. For a moment I was startled until I figured out that it was merely a reflection and not some alien transporting beam about to grab me through the mirror. The mirror had nothing to do with that beam of light, other than serve as a reflector. Yet, the light as reflected was so intense, even blinding for a moment especially since it had bounced off a pretty shiny surface. I turned around and discovered that the source of that brilliant reflection was the steady and even light of the lamp on Holly’s nightstand; when she hit the switch and that beam of light reached out, the instant it struck the mirror it blossomed brilliantly, yet only as a reflection.

In a similar way, God is constantly sending out the light of His grace in search of the mirrors of our hearts.

Here’s a story: A professor stood before his class of 20 senior Organic Biology students, about to hand out the final exam. “I want to say that it’s been a pleasure teaching you this semester. I know you’ve all worked extremely hard and many of you are off to medical school after summer. So that no one gets their GPA messed up because they might have been celebrating a bit too much this week, anyone who would like to opt out of the final exam today will receive a “B” for the course.” There was much rejoicing as students got up, passed by the professor to thank him and sign out on his offer. As the last taker left the room, the professor looked out over the handful of remaining students and asked, “Any one else? This is your last chance.” One final student rose up and took the offer. The professor closed the door and took attendance of those students remaining. “I’m glad to see you believe in yourself.” he said. “You all have “A’s.” (Alan Smith)

May our lives be like a mirror, always ready to catch the light of God’s grace, polished and ready to reflect back to the world the fact that we believe ourselves to be the perfect reflection of the Father’s love. Too often, we’re content to settle for less than perfection in our spiritual lives. We’re close to God, but we aren’t willing to take the time and the effort to have the kind of relationship we know God wants us to have. The biggest problem with settling for second best is that we miss out on that which is best. The best reflection of God’s grace in our lives is when you and I are willing to keep our lives shined and polished on the “A” level. That way His light reflected on our lives is always brilliant.

We pray. Heavenly Father. Too often, Lord, we’re content to settle for less than perfection in our spiritual lives. We’re close to You, but we aren’t willing to take the time and the effort to have the kind of relationship we know You want us to have. Forgive us Lord when we are willing to settle for second best. The biggest problem with settling for second best is that we miss out on that which is best. The best reflection of Your grace in our lives is when we are willing to keep our lives shined and polished on the “A” level. That way Your light reflected on our lives is always brilliant. We pray this in Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
