Merciful God? Years ago, a young man was killed when his truck ran off the road and hit a culvert near our home. The damage to that culvert is still visible today. I pass it often, and a memorial of flowers and a white cross were visible there for years. Knowing it was a young man who died troubled me, so I began instinctively averting my eyes when I passed the spot, my way of looking away from the tragedy and its painful reminder.
Think about it. Did you know, in a very real sense, this is how God looks at our sinfulness? He averts his eyes from our sin when we turn to Him in sorrow.
God’s Word: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).”
The prophet Micah wrote: “Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives . . . You do not stay angry forever” (Micah 7:18). Micah encourages us to wait expectantly for God’s deliverance from sin’s penalty and presence. As we bear the pain of our sin, we see it buried in Christ’s righteousness. Even when we stray, God loves us unconditionally. All we need is to give Him our sins and commit to change. There is truly no other God like Him!
We pray. “Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering love and forgiveness. There is truly no other God like You. Help us to wait expectantly for Your deliverance, embracing Your mercy. May we surrender our sins to You, finding peace in Christ’s righteousness. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
