Meaningful action? We are people who love to watch—time, the sky, and one another. Our eyes are uniquely designed for this, effortlessly taking in what’s right in front of us. However, unlike animals that instinctively eat or flee based on immediate needs, we often fail to respond appropriately or in a timely manner. We have the option to do nothing, which complicates our responses to what we observe. This inaction can lead to missed opportunities for growth.
Think about it. When we see others in need, will we respond with love and action, or will we shift responsibility and ignore their suffering? If not us, then who?
God’s Word: "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity, how can the love of God be in that person (1 John 3:17)?”
When we see others in need, we face critical choices: we can either help or turn away. Simply shifting responsibility to someone else is inadequate and often reflects our societal conditioning to withhold contact and avoid personal responsibility. Ignoring harm is not just an oversight; it is also a sin. May our love for others compel us to take meaningful action, rather than merely express good will. If we don’t step up, then who will?
We pray. “Heavenly Father, help us be truly mindful of what we see and responsive to the needs of others and those around us. May we act with compassion and courage, choosing action over inaction and reflecting Your love in everything we do. In Jesus name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
