Living water?

Living water? What’s your purpose? Why are you here? What is it that God wants you to do and, why has he chosen you to do it? Many Christians today are asking having to do with their Christian identity. I guess it isn’t surprising this is the case as we live in a culture that is all about self and the importance of knowing who and what you are all about.

Think about it. Are purpose-driven lives the lives that God is seeking for his church, or has God something else in mind? For that matter, how important is self at all to God?

God’s Word tells us: “‘…whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life”’ (John 4:14).”

Who we are isn’t really important to God and, perhaps, that’s why it ought not to be important to us. In the history of creation, God has always worked with the unknown, the obscure, with people just like you and just like me. He starts with little and adds much, himself. It’s his divine recipe for greatness–a little bit of us and a whole lot of him works just fine. Purpose? I guess that answers the question. Your purpose and mine is just to be here; the greatness is Him, the vessel is us.

We pray. “Father we pray that all peoples will be bought to salvation. We praise You as the Savior of the world, and pray that You would save those who believe today. We also pray that as we gather together in worship this Christmas may each of us dwell on you free and holy salvation. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
