Lift us up? Why does suffering need to happen? When it happens we are often stunned, unable to function as we normally do; like a bird flying into a window. That’s when God reaches down, lifts us up, tenderly holds, and carefully replaces us back into our lives.
Think about it. It seems that suffering has a purpose; although it is most often hidden from us. Yet, when it happens our hearts are strangely comforted almost as if the hand of God was gripping them.
God’s Word tells us: “Humble yourselves … under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your cares on Him, because he cares for you." (Luke 18:31-34).
We pray: Will we ever fully understand the need to suffer? In this life we will crash into unseen suffering. It will probably leave us dazed, as a bird crashing into a window. But, like that bird, a whack on the head can be painful. Perhaps the next time we fly into life in a hurry, the whack will remind us that when God’s will is immovable, our path may come to a very sudden, perhaps painful, crash.
“Heavenly Father, we know you will uphold us when we fall, and raise us up.You uphold all who fall and raise up all who are dazed by life’s sufferings. We praise You because You are there when we sometimes crash into life’s hidden barriers. In Jesus name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own”
