Legacy of love?

Legacy of love? We have a small Beech Tree, no higher than four feet, that my wife has nurtured from a seedling. She once told me that, “Should one of these tall Beech die, this one will replace it.” My first thought was, “We’ll be long gone before it provides any shade for us. Perhaps, I ought to let the next owner worry about it.”

Think about it. Jesus tells us to put merit away and put our generosity out front, without regard for how it will be used. Perhaps the next owner of this property will cut the tree down. According to Jesus, my charity has nothing to do with someone else’s intent.

God’s Word tells us: “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (Matthew 5:42 ).

It’s been said that, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” So, whoever you are, enjoy that little Beech tree; may it bring you as much joy as the big trees have brought us. May it be a legacy of love for whoever it brings shade tomorrow.

“Heavenly Father, change our lives so that when we’re gone others who have met us are transformed by the love and the Spirit and the word and grace and the mercy You put within us. Make that a plan for our lives. A plan to produce an abundant harvest touching other peoples lives. In Jesus name. Amen!”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34) www.thispassingday.com
