(10.22.21–I'm A People –Matthew 10:31)
My friend, may I ask you a question? When you think about it, do any of us, or someone we know for that matter, need an excuse for being here?
My friend, Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day.
I'm M. Clifford Brunner.
I don't often read comics in magazines or newspapers but I happened to see one in a magazine the other day that really touched me. It was funny on the one hand and troubling at the same time. "In the first panel a Mom was shown putting a copy of a little girl's birth certificate in her backpack, cautioning her to be careful of it and not lose it. But the child lost it in the next panel as she removed her things from the backpack in route to school. She began to cry in the last panel. "What's the problem, Honey?" her teacher asks. The little girl wailed, "I lost my excuse for being born!"
When you think about it, do any of us, or someone we know for that matter, need an excuse for being here?
Here's a story: Bill developed Alzheimer's disease. Bill gave up everything he had ever done for himself until eventually nothing was left. He felt as if he were nobody. There was one group to which he belonged that decided to stay with him during his decline. He sat on the University of Denver Board of Trustees and was encouraged to continue attending meetings. One of the members drove Bill to the meetings and brought him home. This continued even after he lost his ability to remember names, track a conversation or participate in a meaningful way. Bill seemed to enjoy himself at the meetings and his wife, his main caregiver, reasoned that they were probably good for him. After he returned from one such meeting of the trustees, she asked, "Did you have a good meeting, Bill?" He thought for a moment before replying. Then he answered quite honestly, "I don't know." After a pause, he added this heartfelt comment: "But they still think I'm a people." To them, he was somebody. To them, he mattered. He was still a person of value and worth. He could no longer read or write or do any of the things that had been important earlier. But he was still "a people." You need make no apologies for being who you are. You are a person of value, unique and beautiful. You are "a people" – unrepeatable and of infinite worth. That is something to celebrate! (Author unknown. Isn't it wonderful that we don't need an excuse for being born? We need make no apologies for being who we are. Nobody on planet earth is more or less valuable than you, nor we more valuable than anyone else. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that, especially when our sense of self-worth is less than it ought to be. You and I are people, exactly what God intended us to be. No excuse need be made for us or any other "people" God has made, no matter how imperfectly we might turn out. It will be a good day today if only but for one reason, "I'm a people and so are you!"
We pray. Heavenly Father, we don't need an excuse for being born and need make no apologies for being who we are. Nobody on planet earth is more or less valuable than we are, nor we more valuable than anyone else. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that, especially when our sense of self-worth is less than it ought to be. We are people, exactly what You intended us to be. No excuse need be made for us or any other "people" You have made, no matter how imperfectly we might turn out. It will be a good day today if only but for one reason, "I'm a people and blessed to be here!" In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing soeone else.
