Joy balloon?

Joy balloon? “Happiness is imaginary, something that the living often claim only the dead know.” I heard that on the radio driving down the freeway one night. I was about to be married. Talk about poking the balloon.

Think about it. Was that little bit of wisdom predicting that at some point my happiness would be tempered by circumstances, life yet to come? Did my joy balloon get poked.

God’s Word tells us: “‘These things have I spoken to you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, Love one another, as I have loved you’” (John 15:11).

God tells us that joy is based on holiness; holiness in worshiping Him. The “joy” in daily living is but an oasis on the path to heaven, not a path itself. Real joy is when we are right with God and feel He’s right with us. If we make our aim joy, not happiness, we find it in the things of this life that bring us close to Him. All else is merely passing happiness that will never fill us with joy.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, thank You that the joy of the Lord is my strength. Help me to abide in You, always, so that I may be joyful, fruitful, and bring much glory to You. Remind me daily Lord that my joy in this life is founded in You and not in the things and events of this life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
