In a nutshell? Did you ever see one of those football end zone views of someone holding that somewhat ubiquitous banner: “God so loved the world …” I think that most people see that banner and think to themselves, “There’s another one of those silly signs!” The question is, is it silly to hold a banner like this on national TV?
Think about it. “God so loved the world.” I understand why people make the banners and hold them up in end zones. They do it because they want others to know about the amazing love of God. Makes sense, right?
God’s Word tells us: “ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).”
This simple verse has been called “the Gospel in a nutshell” because it tells the whole story of the Bible. So, banners in the end zone? Perhaps they are silly. But think about it; it’s good to be reminded. So, thank you to the banner makers one and all; it’s always good to be reminded of why we are here and where we all are headed.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son into this world, to us a broken people, held captive by sin. Help us to trust in Jesus Christ alone as our Savior, and help us to spread Your love everywhere, events and all. Even perhaps a ubiquitous banner? In Jesus name I pray. Amen.”
