His perfect plan. "Remember the lyrics to the classic song “I Did It My Way”? It's long been a favorite of mine as a control freak. The message of self-reliance resonates with me. However, a friend recently commented that this song promotes insecurity by suggesting that relying solely on oneself, rather than on God, leads to an unstable foundation."
Think about it. “Insecure!” I wondered. “How could a macho, self-respecting motto like “I Did It My Way!” lead to insecurity? It wasn’t long before I got the drift of what he was saying, however.
God’s Word: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).”
In tough situations, we always have two choices: rely on ourselves or rely on God. Who holds the other end of your rope? Is it the secure and unshakable anchor of faith in Jesus Christ, or the fragile grip of self-reliance, like Sinatra’s grit? Maybe better lyrics for Sinatra’s tune would be: “Regrets, we’ve had few—but then again, we’ve been forgiven—we did what He asked us to do, and we did it His way, following His perfect plan."
We pray. “Heavenly Father, in every challenge we face, help us to choose You over self-reliance. Let us anchor our lives in Your steadfast love, trusting in Your perfect plan. May we follow Your way with humility and faith, knowing that true strength comes from walking in Your will. In Jesus name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
