Flossing and brushing your heart?

Brushing and flossing our hearts? Before a recent dentist visit, I went all out to prepare—brushing my teeth twice, using mouthwash, and flossing thoroughly. I was determined to avoid the dreaded, “Are we brushing and flossing regularly?” I left that morning with a sense of accomplishment. The work was worth it to avoid the comments and feel confident about my visit.

Think about it. As Christians, are we as diligent in preparing spiritually as we are physically? Do we take time to ready our hearts for Christ’s return, or risk God asking if we’re brushing up on His Word and flossing between the hurts in our lives?

God’s Word: "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says (James 1:22).”

There is no need to store this in our hearts anymore. Jesus took it upon Himself two thousand years ago on a hill in Judea called Calvary. Each day we need to prepare the way for Him by emptying our lives today of the things that separate Him from us; and, don’t worry about overdoing it; where Christ and our hearts are concerned, no amount of brushing and flossing can be too much!

We pray. “Heavenly Father, we release all burdens and sins, for Jesus carried them. Help us prepare our hearts, removing anything that separates us from You. Guide us in cleansing our souls with devotion, knowing we can never overdo the work of drawing closer to You. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
