Fences? “Here’s a story. Two brothers, estranged for years due to misunderstandings, lived on adjoining land. After one won the lottery, he ordered a fence. However, the carpenter, knowing their family's values, built a bridge instead. When the brother returned from vacation, he found his sibling crossing the bridge. They embraced, reminisced about their parents, and reconciled over dinner. The bridge symbolized love overcoming years of distrust, while a wall would have deepened their divide.”
Think about it. When we are faced with the prospect of rebuilding a trust that has been severely shattered, it can be a daunting task.
God’s Word: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).”
Divisive hurt within a family is profound. Once broken, bonds shatter with explosive force, separating loved ones. The prophet Micah warns us to “guard the doors of your mouth,” as distrust can arise even among spouses, leading to suspicion. When trust is jeopardized, build a bridge, not a wall, using God’s Word and love as your foundation. A daunting task but worth it.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, help us guard our words and nurture love within our families. Heal the wounds of division and distrust. Grant us the wisdom to build bridges, not walls, and strengthen our bonds with Your Word and love. May we reflect Your grace in our relationships. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
