Getting devoured? I’ve always preferred doing things my way, often clashing with authority figures who had better methods. Ignoring their advice, I’d stubbornly pursue my own plans, usually learning lessons the hard way. Over time, I grew more open to others’ opinions, realizing my solitary path often led to loneliness, as people stepped aside and watched me fail.
Think about it. When we focus solely on our own ways, excluding God, do our prideful pursuits become idols. And in so doing, does God step aside, allowing failure to become inevitable as we stray from His intentions?
God’s Word: “Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4).”
We have the capacity to create what can devour us. Goals and dreams can often consume us. Possessions and property can turn and destroy us quickly–unless we first seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, allowing Him to breathe into what we make of our lives. Focusing on ourselves is always the worst kind of idol worship; and like all idols, the self is never a substitute for our Heavenly Father.
We pray. “Heavenly Father, Help us not to be consumed by our own ways and pride. Remind us to seek Your guidance in all our pursuits. May we align our goals with Your divine plan, avoiding the pitfalls of our own ingenuity and finding true success in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
