Comfort Zone? When was the last time that you stepped out of character, and done something that others might have considered excessively daring, perhaps uncharacteristic of who you are or not conforming to the person that they knew? For most of us that is probably something that, rather than striving to do on occasion, we really try to avoid at all costs.
Think about it. Stepping out of character can be dangerous.
However, does God want us to step out of the norm, out of our comfort zone, from time to time, to do the work that only the extraordinary effort can achieve?
God’s Word tells us: “John answered, ‘Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same’ (Luke 3:11).
There’s risk to stepping out of our norm, but to God, perhaps, the risk is worth it. That’s the nature of untrodden ground. Christians are born to be leaders, and leaders look for that untrodden ground. A place where character is usually put to the test, outside our comfort zone.
Dear Lord, when we examine John's message it no longer seems so harsh. It seems real and realistic. He's talking about real struggles we have in our own souls. Purify me. Purify our motives. Cleanse us from clutching at security and taking no risks. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.”
