Blind beggars?

Blind beggars? What is envy? It is one of the blindest sins–partly because it is unreasonable, partly because the envious person is swept up in himself and swollen with poisonous thoughts in a dark, constricting world of almost unendurable self-imposed anguish.

Think about it. Envy blinds us to the purpose that God has given us and the grace that He has reserved for us. For some He has given much in the way of pain and suffering.

God’s Word tells us: “A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones” (Proverbs 14:30).

Envy blinds us to the purpose that God has given us and the grace that He has reserved for us. When we blindly lash out at others that have something we don’t, when we allow the “poisonous thoughts” of envy to “constrict” the world that God has purposely, deliberately given to us, we not only cheat ourselves but we place a burden on those upon whom we have dropped our load of envy. Each of us needs to be content with what we have been given.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, forgive our envy that blinds us to Your purpose and grace. Grant us contentment with Your gifts. May we resist comparing ourselves to others, embracing Your unique plan for each of us. Help us honor You by stewarding Your blessings and serving others in love. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
