Appearances? Being long involved in marketing, my office library has dozens of related books, mostly recent soft covers with flashy titles. For a local congregation's leadership appeal, I found all needed information in a plain 1927 hardcover, "Advertising & Advertisements." This proved, "You can’t judge a book by its cover," true again.
Think about it. How quick we are to judge when all we have to judge by is appearances. And so it is with the way we treat often one another.
God’s Word: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (2 Corinthians 5:17).”
The Bible advises not to “judge by what we see with our eyes” (Isaiah 11:3). Judging based on appearances often employs a double standard. We should first examine our hearts. We need to understand others before judging which opens new possibilities for them and us. Pausing to reflect allows God’s light to shine in our lives. Never judge a person by appearances. This approach not only saves time but also fosters compassion and deeper connections with others.
We pray: “Heavenly Father, help us to see beyond appearances and judge with compassion and understanding. Guide us to examine our hearts, reflecting Your love and light. May we pause to seek Your wisdom before judging, fostering deeper connections and grace. In Jesus name. Amen.”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
