Angels in disguise?

(10.18.21–I'm A People –Ephesians:1:6)

My friend, may I ask you a question? It's been said: "Without imperfection we wouldn't know love. Is that the way God wants us to know love?

My friend, Life’s a story, welcome to This Passing Day.

I'm M. Clifford Brunner.

It's been said: "Without imperfection we wouldn't know love." After reading this story, I know how right that is.

A story from an unknown author: "My first memory of Dennis was of a young man bound in a wheelchair, his body and facial features distorted; but with mind intact and unaffected. He was a volunteer at the Children's Hospital, reaching out to others in pain. Countless times, I witnessed his selfless love and devotion, his prayers and the mysterious miracles that took place in his presence. I remember a once beautiful teen, severely burned and scarred for life. One day, searching for Dennis, I began to walk into her room only to quickly and silently slip back out the door. Dennis had a mirror in his twisted hands, encouraging the girl to look at her reflection. His words to her were so full of love, conviction. "Don't look at yourself at others see you, but rather as God sees you, beautiful, perfect and unblemished." And when he held the mirror up to her, she smiled, radiantly! Somehow, she saw past the ugly burns, the scarred flesh, visualizing herself as God, Himself saw her. One day, a little boy, badly beaten and abandoned by his parents was lying in bed, fighting for life, gasping for breath. Dennis sat by his side, gently took the child's hand and guided him to the other side. "There is nothing to fear," he softly whispered, "God is waiting for you, wanting to take you home with Him. Just hold onto my hand, I'll walk with you to Him." A look of utter, complete peace spread upon his youthful face as he surrendered his young, battered life into God's hands. In some mystical way Dennis was a parent to all the children he touched. One day I asked Dennis about his own parents, he told me an extraordinary story. He was adopted. His parents prayed for a child to love. They vowed to God that if he would bless them with a child, they would always nurture and cherish this gift. One day his mother had the urge to go check her car. In the backseat, lying in a makeshift cardboard box she found him, a newborn, umbilical cord still intact. Dennis, as imperfect as he was, had begun his life of perfecting, one person at a time." (Author unknown. If anyone has a proprietary interest in this story please authenticate and I will be happy to credit, or remove, as the circumstances dictate.)

I cannot help but wonder if God, in His divine love looks down to see His children in their suffering, and sends His angels like Dennis, to bestow comfort and hope. These outcasts, often rejected by society, have a mystical way of return- ing love, without bitterness or anger, like an angel in disguise. Dennis and people like him aren't mistakes; they're the closest reflection of God's love that we know. They are the mirrors in which our lives are perfected and the love of Christ revealed. How much harder it would be to know love without their "imperfections."

We pray. Heavenly Father, I cannot help but wonder if You in Your divine love look down to see us, Your children, in our suffering. Thank You for sending outcast angels to bestow comfort and hope. These outcasts, often rejected by society, have a mystical way of returning love, without bitterness or anger, like an angel in disguise. Outcast angels aren't mistakes; they're the closest reflection of Your love that we know. They are the mirrors in which our lives are perfected and the love of Christ revealed. How much harder it would be to know love without their "imperfections." In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Therefore my friend, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry for itself; each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt 6:34) This Passing Day. May this passing day honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be a blessing to you and everyone you meet. Find a stranger and say hello. Don't let another day pass without your day blessing someone else.
