Acceptance?

Accepting our lot? Are you a Pollyanna? I’ve been accused of that. A Pollyanna always searches for the good in every situation. I’ve learned finding the good in the bad is a process. For example, a slipped chainsaw chain spinning off the saw leads to sharpening the teeth because you have it off, making the job easier. One bad thing can lead to something good.

Think about it. The “in” and the “with” make all the difference. When we accept our lot in life as something that we are working within and not something that has swallowed us whole, our perspective on happiness can change overnight.

God’s Word: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).”

The Bible tells us that when we seek sorrow there is no doubt that we will find it. Bad things happen; of that there is no doubt. But, when we accept the bad things as opportunities in which some good might be hiding, bad things are but steppingstones to the peace we were looking for in the first place. So, be a Pollyanna. Who knows what good things you’ve been overlooking because you were focused on the bad all along.

We pray. “Heavenly Father, Help me to see the good in every situation, no matter how difficult it may seem. Grant me the wisdom to understand that challenges can lead to hidden blessings and growth. Teach me to embrace the process of discovery and to find strength in adversity. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34)
