A bruise is better than a bite?

A bruise is better than a bite? Criticism is difficult to bear, especially unjust. While we try to avoid it, both just and unjust criticism are unavoidable in life. Just criticism requires patience and forbearance, while unjust criticism demands even deeper loving patience. Unfair criticism targets our vulnerabilities, causing greater pain, especially when it comes from multiple sources. Despite the challenge, we must seek guidance on how God wants us to respond to criticism.

Think about it. Criticism, both just and unjust, is hard to bear. Just criticism requires patience, while unjust criticism demands deeper patience when it targets vulnerabilities.

God’s Word: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matthew 5:9).”

We shouldn’t let detractors lead to despair. Criticism offers growth opportunities. Focus on the criticism, not the critic, especially if it’s unfair or comes from loved ones. When love guides our response, it’s easier to avoid deep wounds. A bruise is far better than a bite, allowing us to learn without being overwhelmed by negativity or hurt from those closest to us.

We pray: “Heavenly Father, help me respond to criticism with grace and humility. Teach me to focus on the feedback, not the critic, especially when it's unfair. May love guide my heart, protecting me from bitterness and helping me grow through every challenge. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34)
